GASTONIA MAN SHOCKED WITH TASER
DURING INCIDENT

GASTONIA Gastonia Police said
Monday it was a bad day for a 19-year-old who had
to be shocked
with a taser over the weekend while being
arrested for misuse of 911.
Police say that Robbie Douglas Maney, Maxton
Avenue, Gastonia, called 911 four times on
Saturday.
Gaston County Communications said two calls were
hang-ups; the third call a shooting on Rosewood
Lane; and the fourth
was to report a domestic violence incident on

TENTATIVE
FERREE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE RELEASED

MAIDEN -- The fourth annual Josh
Ferree Memorial Softball Tournament is just
around the corner. For the 2008 tournament,
around 10
teams have signed up to participate in the
tournament held in memory of Josh Ferree, who
suddenly and unexpectedly died while
in the Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
Ferree was in training to be a trooper with the
North Carolina Highway Patrol. The schedule is
tentative and the tournament
will be held at the Maiden Recreation Center this
Friday and Saturday. A Home Run Tournament is
also scheduled for both nights.

LINCOLNTON -- A Lincolnton woman,
already in jail on drug charges, now faces more
charges in a Gaston County drug case.
Cherryville Police charged Tana Brown Parker, 45,
Lincolnton, and Heather Marie Stephenson, 27,
Dallas, with obtaining methadone
tablets through using a counterfeit prescription.
Cherryville Police Det. Mike Allred arrested
Stephenson Aug. 11 after she allegedly forged a
120-tabled prescription at a

weekend a brutal beating last month in Newton is
not a hate crime.

Lincoln County 4-H'ers are Winners at State 4-H
Congress

Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development RALEIGH -- Lincoln
County 4-H'ers received honors at state
competitions during the annual North Carolina 4-H
Congress. The Congress
was held July 21-25 at North Carolina State
University.
State Winners were:
Cody Johnsen, 13, son of Jeff and Kristi Johnsen
of Denver, won the silver medal for the 11-13 age
division Soil Water and the
Environment Presentation.

CHERRYVILLE
A wild parking lot scene Sunday
at a Cherryville grocery store lands a Gaston
County woman in jail.
Police say that Patricia Gail Terres, 58, West
Church Street, Cherryville, chased another woman
around the parking lot of Food Lion
in Terres vehicle. Terres also struck a
vehicle in the parking lot and nearly struck the
vehicles driver, who had to jump out
of the way.

LINCOLN/CATAWBA COUNTY Mother
Nature brought heavy rain, thunder and lightning
around the Lincoln/Catawba County line
just after midnight Sunday. Around 12:30am,
thunder rumbled around Lincolnton and north of
Lincolnton.
The largest amount of rain fell between Newton
and Maiden in Catawba County, with reports of
anywhere between 6 and 8 inches
of rain.
The
Lincoln County Board of Commissioners will meed
tonight at 6:30 p.m.
in the Board of Commissioners' Room on the third
floor of the James W. Warren Citizens Center
at 115 W. Main Street.
The citizens of Lincoln County are always

happens of note every year when I go visit my
mother-in-law in the greater Georgetown, SC,
area.
This
year, it started with an email I received from
Joann Hager, informing me that Vicki Rauch was
arrested for failing to
appear in court regarding the complaint on her
animal shelter, filed by Lincoln County
government.
We
first reported the issue on The Carolina Scoop
after being contacted by both Rauch, whose son
owns All Creatures Great and
Small in Lincolnton, and a neighbor of
Rauchs, who said the smell and noise of
Rauchs 100-plus animals is
unbelievable.

North Carolinas attorney
general Roy Cooper will address a state
conference in Charlotte on meth amphetamine labs.
Law enforcement officials across many levels
throughout the state will attend the Clan Lab
Investigators Association (CLIA)
conference 10 a.m. Monday in Charlotte.
The conference
will take place at the Hilton Charlotte City
Center, located at 222 East Third Street in
Charlotte.
Cooper will
speak to clan lab investigators, narcotics
agents, and police officers from across the
country about
LOW-FLYING PLANE
CROSSES GASTON/LINCOLN COUNTIES

CHERRYVILLE Several residents
along the Highway 182 corridor near the
Gaston/Lincoln County line
reported seeing a low-flying aircraft Friday
evening.
And, according to the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA), they werent seeing
things.
An airbus, flying about 30 miles northwest of
Charlotte, had developed landing gear problems.
As a result,
the plane had to dump some fuel.
Kathleen Bergen with the FAA said the term
dumping fuel is misleading.

TOURNAMENT TO REMEMBER FALLEN BLET CANDIDATE
Ferree Tournament Set for Friday, Saturday

LINCOLNTON -- Bats will be swinging for
a good cause Friday and Saturday, Aug.
22-23.
It's the fourth annual Josh Ferree memorial
softball tournament, which will be held at the
Maiden Recreation Center
in Maiden. Proceeds will go into a scholarship
for people attending Basic Law Enforcement
Training at Cleveland Community
College.
Ferree, who was in BLET at Cleveland Community
College, suddenly collapsed and died as he was
heading into the
woods as part of the training more than three
years ago.
Retired North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper
Jack Ferree, Josh's father, said the idea for the
tournament came from
Trooper B.E. Hipp.
