4:24am -- Trespassing: 725 N. Cedar Street. Sgt. Spencer Summers said a subject was trespassing in a residence.

2:35pm -- Fight in progress: 1627 E. Main Street (Petro Express). Lt. Randy Willis said subjects were arguing. One victim was struck in the face.

For 15 years, J.J. Tindall saved lives as a paramedic with Gaston County EMS, also known as GEMS.

He turned in his resignation one day to pursue his dream to save something of a different sort: to own his own photography studio and save family heirloom photographs.

Since 1998, Tindall and his wife, Brandy, have owned and operated Tindall's Professional Photography.

MILL FIRE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION

CROUSE -- Two days after Southern Fiber Mill's 40,000 square-foot warehouse burned to the ground, the investigation into what started the fire continues.

Lincoln County Fire Marshal Mike Futrell said Monday night his agency has stepped aside in the investigation into the early Sunday morning blaze.

"The State Bureau of Investigation and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department are investigating the cause," said Futrell.

Three firefighters were injured while battling the blaze; one suffered a broken ankle, while two others suffered minor injuries.

COMMISSIONERS APPROVE TWO
NEW HISTORIC PROPERTIES
First designations made in four years

County commissioners Monday night unanimously approved the designation of two separate properties in Lincoln County as historic landmarks.

The designations of the Daniel Rhyne House and Reinhardt-Craig House, Kiln and Pottery Shop are the first historical landmark designations since 2004.

Jason Harpe, with the Lincoln County Historical Association, made a presentation before commissioners.

"One of our charges is to designate local sites as historic properties," said Harpe.

SUNDAY A.M. FIRE DESTROYS MILL

Investigation continuing into Southern Fiber fire

CROUSE -- An overnight fire at Southern Fiber on South Grove Street Extension totally destroyed one of Lincoln County's last functioning mills.

Firefighters from eight departments spent hours battling the blaze that happened in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Crouse firefighters were assisted by Lincolnton; South Fork; Hughes Pond; North 321; Union; Denver and Howards Creek in battling the blaze.

GROWING UNUSUAL FRUITS

I want to make you aware of a book that might be of interest to some serious home
gardeners. The book is Uncommon Fruits for Every Garden by Lee Reich. Reich is a former researcher with the U.S.D.A. and Cornell University. He is now a gardener, writer, lecturer, and consultant on gardening. The book is readily available on the internet and I’m sure bookstores can order it if they don’t have it in the store.

The author discusses some of the more unusual fruiting plants we can grow in the garden. One of my favorites is the persimmon. This native is often underappreciated because it bears a small fruit and must be completely ripe before it’s good to eat. But there’s nothing quite like persimmon pudding. An easier way to become a persimmon lover is to try the Oriental persimmons which are sometimes sold in the store as “Sharon Fruit”. If you

MAN THREATENS HOSPITAL WITH GUN

MAN ARRESTED ON LINCOLN FELONIES

SHELBY -- Shelby police over the weekend arrested a former Lincolnton resident on felony charges from Lincolnton Police.

According to arrest records and warrants, J.W. Smith Jr., 56, formerly of Carwash Drive, Lincolnton, was arrested at the Best Value Inn at 823 W. Dixon Blvd. in Shelby after causing a disturbance at the hotel and refusing to leave.

STOLEN GUN LEADS TO TWO ARRESTS

LINCOLNTON -- A report of a stolen firearm leads to the arrest of a Turner Street couple on drugs and weapons charges.

Jeffrey Lee Nolen Jr., 23, and Brandi Houser, 28, both of 212 Turner Street, were arrested late last week after detectives found four heroin baloons and a stolen gun at their residencce.

Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, detectives with the Lincolnton Police Department received word of a stolen firearm at one of the local pawnshops.

NORTH LINCOLN -- Firefighters from five departments battled a structure fire at a vacant house Thursday night.

Around 8:20 p.m., a neighbor of the old Carpenter property at Pinewood Trail and Maiden Highway called the Lincoln County Communications Center to reports the residence was on fire.

JONES EXXON SUSPECT CAUGHT!

DENVER -- A Mount Holly man has been charged in the four
break-ins at Jones Exxon in Denver. Edward Franklin Case Jr.,
40, was arrested early Thursday morning after a chase involving Lincoln
County Sheriff's deputies and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.

Deputy T. Parker tried to stop a dark colored Honda CRV on
South Little Egypt Road around 2:30 a.m. and the vehicle sped
away. The officer chased the vehicle down Highway 16 into
Mecklenburg County at speeds in excess of 100

LINCOLNTON -- An 18-year-old Gastonia man is arrested after a
Friday night purse snatching and early Saturday morning chase
in Lincolnton.

Rasheen Elmore turned himself into authorities after detectives
with Lincolnton Police learned he was staying at a residence
near Cherryville.

Elmore was arrested around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Education members were sworn in Wednesday night, where the
board then elected a new chairman and vice-chairman.
