MAN ARRESTED AFTER
SUNDAY CHASE Suspect
took authorities from Lincolnton into
Gaston County
By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON -- A
Sunday afternoon of drinks at a local
restaurant landed a Stanley man in jail
and his friend in a hospital, after the
duo led authorities on a two-county chase
Sunday afternoon.
The incident started after
the Lincoln County Communications Center
received a call of an intoxicated driver,
driving a pickup towing a boat, that left
Tradewinds Seafood Company on East Main
Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Lincolnton Police officer
D. Mocanu began following the vehicle,
with blue lights on, down East Main
Street and onto Highway 27. Two Lincoln
County Sheriff's deputies' cruisers also
joined the chase that didn't reach more
than 50 miles-per-hour.
Driving the pickup was
David Alan McKinnish of Stanley. His
passenger was the registered owner of the
vehicle, Eric Bohannon, also of Stanley.
As the pair made their way
east down Highway 27, authorities from
the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department
kept chasing the vehicle after city
police followed chase procedures and
ended their portion of the chase.
Gaston County Police,
meantime, made their way west on Highway
27, trying to intercept the vehicle.
Authorities said Sunday
night McKinnish nearly ran into a ditch
twice and ran cars off the road

WE CAN FINALLY FALL BACK
Don't forget to
turn clocks back one hour
at 2 a.m. Sunday By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLN COUNTY -- At 2 a.m. this
Sunday, November 2, 2008, we will turn
their clocks back one hour, marking the
end of Daylight Saving Time (DST).
From 1986 to 2006 time changes were on
the first Sunday in April and the last
Sunday in October, but in 2007, time
changes on the second Sunday in March and
the first Sunday in November, adding
about a month to daylight saving time
For thousands of years, time was measured
based on the position of the sun; it was
noon when the sun was highest in the sky.
Sundials were used well into the Middle
Ages, at which time mechanical clocks
began to appear. Cities would set their
town clock by measuring the position of
the sun, but every city would be on a
slightly different time.
Chris
Clinch and his wife had around 100 kids
to trick or treat at their Terrace Place
home in Lincolnton on Friday night, some
who traveled from as far away as
Greenville, SC.
Most of the decorations the Clinch's had
are homemade. They had a werewolf running
around doing all of the scares, along
with sound and lights it made for an
exciting night. Here are some pictures of
the decorations and some with their sons
Collin and Jason..

FIGHTERS BLAZE TRAIL
FOR THE FUTURE OF NC'S NEWEST SPORT
Staff Reports
Like a wildfire sweeping across the land
our hometown's official MMA fight team
took the packed arena by storm.
How do you feel about a hat trick? Can
you say 'Trifecta'? All Combat College
fighters win in typical dominating
fashion. And all were in won in the first
round.
The battlefield was set at Circle of Fury
Oct. 24th at Winston-Salem's Joel
Coliseum for an electrified crowd. A
25" round cage was the proving
ground that all fighters present would be
tested in. Some would rise. Some would
fall. In the end, only Combat College
walked through the fire and stood tall!
Perhaps because they were the fire. They
left the packed audience on it's feet
cheering for more.
MMA, which stands for Mixed Martial Arts,
can be seen in events like UFC, Ultimate
Fighting Challenge, where athletes
compete against each other using a
combination of punches, kicks, knees,
wrestling, and submission grappling moves
to beat an opponent. Some matches are
over in seconds, others will last
