Devin Rhyne wins ward one city council seat

Political newcomer Devin Rhyne defeated incumbent Fred Houser to become the ward one Lincolnton City councilman Tuesday.

As supporters cheered and applauded Rhyne, the newly-elected councilman talked about the brief and intense campaign and what the future held.

“Everyone's hard work has paid off,” said Rhyne. “The people's voice has been finally heard from the November election. This was a total team effort.”

Man falls from
tree during call

Authorities responding to a 911 hangup call on Exodus Church Road early Tuesday morning end up having to call Lincoln EMS after a man falls from a tree.

Thirty-one-year-old Adam Scronce was transported to Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln in police custody, then taken to the Magistrate's Office on charges of assaulting a government official and communicating threats.

Authorities respond to problem on school bus

Authorities in East Lincoln responded to a problem on a Lincoln County Schools bus around 3:45pm Tuesday afternoon.

Personnel arriving on the scene discovered a 15-year-old student reportedly intoxicated in the 1100 block of Verdict Ridge Drive off St. James Church Road.

Lincolnton Fire and Police responded to reports of several pallets on fire behind the Snappy Lube on East Main Street Tuesday evening.

Around 6:30pm, authorities found the fire in a field behind the business. Before firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, officers made sure a group of children playing nearby were safe and out of danger.

Classic car hits restaurant


Police said a classic pickup truck (right) accidentally backed into Fatz Cafe on Tuesday evening. No injuries were reported in the incident and the restaurant was not evacuated as a result.

What many people know is that Doug Mayes blazed a trail in the early 1950s, serving as WBTV's “Your Esso Reporter” at a time when television and television news was fledgling in Charlotte. WBTV was the first television station on-air in the Carolinas in 1949; Doug joined the station in 1952 as its first news anchor and reporter.

"Music Man" at North Lincoln High School

This past weekend, North Lincoln High School presented “The Music Man,” a musical about Professor Harold Hill coming to an Iowa town who tries to sell band insturments to kids in town and to start a band.

The play is directed by Joanna Underwood with musicians under the direction of Neil Underwood, NLHS band director. Jesse Nixon played the role of Professor Hill, while Samantha White played the role of librarian Marian Paroo.

The play is being put on again this weekend, March 11 – 13, 7:30pm each night. For more information, call North Lincoln High School at (704) 736-1969.

An Intermediate Sewing Class will be held on Thursday and Friday mornings, April 8th and 9th, from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm (participants attend both days). The Intermediate class is for ages 9 to 18.

The class will be held on April 6 and 7th from 1 pm until 4 pm (both days). The class is for youth ages 9 to 18 and adult volunteer helpers are needed.
