A Special
"Quarterback" to my
readers, supporters and friends

BY JON

January 27, 2012 -- Slow
down or die.
Those four words
were what I heard upon my recent
hospital stay in South Carolina.
The hospitalist who never
introduced himself to me asked
me if I have a high-stress job.
Yes, I answered. He then
hit me with the four words I never
thought I would hear.
And everything changed
quickly.
Now close friends, like my best
friend Trey and other friends, like
Larry Seagle, have been telling me
for awhile to slow down.
While in the hospital, I checked with
the X-Ray Department to see the
make-up of my head. One hundred
percent concrete.
Slow down or die.
I used to always think the only way
to get the real story was to show up
on the scene of wrecks, fires and big
arrests.
However, four words have changed the
way I work, eat and, frankly, live.
Yes, breaking news is important.
Family, however, including my wife
and parents, are more important.
Laughing and enjoying life is also
equally important. I realize I may be
preaching to the choir or saying
common-sense things; however, I find
writing and communicating with the
community is good therapy.
With my Dad being in the hospital
again, family is even more important.
We have not published until today
(Friday) due to family matters and
due to a high level of exhaustion I
have been experiencing since my
release from the hospital.
Since the hospital stay, common tasks
such as housecleaning or even taking
out the trash totally exhaust me. At
the age of 40, I am not
bouncing back like I used
to
so the mysterious
doctors advice has taken.
Slow down or die.
I am taking a couple of days off next
week. We will resume publishing on
Wednesday, February 1.
